Golf shoes without spikes not only offer good grip thanks to their rubber nubs or soft spikes, but also protect the greens. Spikes can break off and are more difficult to clean. Spikeless golf shoes are now more than an alternative to classic golf shoes.
The Performer – FootJoy PRO/SL
The Pro/SL from FootJoy is THE spikeless golf shoe on tour. Greats like Adam Scott, Louis Oosthuizen, Kevin Na, Andrew “Beef” Johnston, Bernd Wiesberger or Lee Westwood rely on the sporty shoe without spikes.
The model from FootJoy is based on a layered model. The top layer provides comfort. The lower part of the shoe is firmer and provides stability in the swing.
The manufacturer offers a one-year waterproof warranty. The Pro/SL is available in the following colors: White / Blue, Black, White / Navy, White / Black.
Personal Verdict: High quality manufactured shoe that provides very good stability in the swing, waterproof and comfortable to wear.
The sporty sneaker – Callaway Del Mar Retro
Callaway is known for its golf clubs and especially for its drivers. You can also find spikeless golf shoes in the range: the Del Mar Retro impresses with its fashionable retro design.
The upper is leather, the lining is microfiber suede, and the foot bed is optimized for use on the golf course. Callaway offers a one-year waterproof warranty.
Personal Verdict: The Callaway Del Mar Retro offers a comfortable fit and looks good enough to wear as an everyday sneaker.
The dynamic modern – Skechers Go Golf Elite 2
The relatively young Skechers company has become one of the world’s largest producers of footwear. The Go Golf Elite 2 is the US company’s spikeless golf shoe model.
The smooth leather upper is waterproof. The cushioning sole is translucent, and the heel lock provides a snug, secure fit.
Personal Verdict: The Go Golf Elite 2 from Skechers has a breathable and comfortable lining, a modern design and offers good support. Unfortunately, all four metal eyelets that reinforce the lace holes came loose on one shoe during the first round. Otherwise, the shoe - especially the inner part - is solidly made.
The lightweight – Puma Grip Sport
Sweaty feet in high summer? The description “ultralight” is more than apt for the Grip Sport from German sports manufacturer Puma. Once put on, the spikeless Puma golf shoe feels like a second skin. The sole offers good stability in the swing. But beware of morning dew: the Puma Grip Sport is water-repellent, but not waterproof.
Personal Verdict: On hot summer days, when the bottom of the course is blazing, there is no more comfortable golf shoe than the Puma Grip Sport. Note when buying: The shoe runs extremely small. Best to take one to two sizes larger (for me: 46 instead of 44).
The sleek – Ecco Golf Street Retro
With its “Golf Street Retro” model, Danish shoe manufacturer Ecco offers a spikeless leather golf shoe that can be worn equally as a street shoe.
The Ecco Golf Street Retro is lightweight, breathable and very comfortable to wear thanks to its supple yak leather lining. The tread on the rubber sole is relatively deep, so it provides a secure grip even on wet grass. Ecco guarantees waterproofing for one year.
Personal Verdict: Sleek and fashionable golf shoe that you can put on while you're still out before your round of golf. Seems relatively rigid with a high instep when first worn, but adjusts so well after a short wear that you actually don't want to take these shoes off even after your round.
The sporty robust – Nike Golf Lunar Control Vapor
The spikeless Lunar Control Vapor from the US company Nike stands out, especially because of its spacy look.
The upper of the Nike Lunar Control Vapor golf shoe is made of synthetic leather, which makes for a light weight. A midsole and support wings increase comfort and support. The outsole acts like a fin and gives more stability in the swing. Nike offers a two-year waterproof warranty.
Personal Verdict: The Nike Luna Control Vapor is very sturdily made and is a golf shoe for all weather conditions. The shoes fit the foot well and convey a certain dynamism, not only visually.
The All-rounder – Adidas Adicross V
German sports giant Adidas offers the Adicross V, a spikeless golf shoe that’s easy on the greens.
The Adicross V from Adidas has an extra-deep rubber lug that provides strong grip – even in the rain. The cushioned interior ensures a great fit. According to Adidas, the Adicross is said to be waterproof.
Personal Verdict: Compared to the other models, the Adicross V has a relatively high weight, but surprises with all the greater wearing comfort (even in high temperatures) and pleases with its fashionable design. The only criticism: The waterproofness reaches its limits in wet semi-rough terrain.
